Act

Another Crackhouse night, another win. I netted just shy of $60. Woo hoo!

The evening didn't start well. I hadn't slept much Tuesday night, so I was tired and emotionally drained by the very good news from the anatomical ultrasound. I got such a rush seeing the PhantomTwins that by last night I'd kind of lost steam.

So by eight or nine hands in, I was felted. (More on my nemesis shortly.) After the rebuy though things started falling well for me, I built a stack of around thirty five dollars, and won a monster pot when my rockets held up on a three-way all-in. (Pretty remarkable, considering the board at the end had three diamonds and nasty straight possibilities.)

Cashed out at midnight holding around $98 in chips (which I miscounted and had to have someone correct me -- talk about a "kill me now" moment) in spite of being owned by Karol.

How much did she own me?

Let's just say the Mut's collar should include a "Return to Karol at IHadOuts' tag on it.

By the end of last night I was on specific-player tilt. If I was in a hand, and Karol was in the hand, it became my duty to pay her off to see the nuts she was holding.

And then, and then, toward the end of the evening, I'm holding KJ, I bet two bucks, from the button she comes over the top with five, I call, the flop comes AQ4 rainbow, I bet two more bucks, she raises it to five, I re-raise to fifteen, and she goes into staredown mode.

Now normally, if I'm in a significant pot, I try to ask myself "What Would Jesus (Ferguson) Do?" and shut my face down. Do I do that this hand? No. I start to, then I decide to mess around with her head. I look at her, smile, and wink.

Insta-call. I know I've messed up. Checks to showdown, and her 8 4 off takes the pot.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Note to self: Your acting days are way in the past and besides, you weren't that good.

So, take-home lessons:

  • Find a lockdown face and use it, always.
  • You're not cute. Don't even try.
  • Don't get mechanical with value bets. Different players will pay off different percentages in different situations. (More on where this comes from in a future post.)

That is all.

I have to correct the action even though your description makes me sound better. Pre-flop, I was in BB and the raise was to like a dollar. I called and Ronnie and Dawn called after me. When the flop hit and you bet out, I thought for a long time and then raised, convinced you had nothing. My raise caused Dawn and Ronnie to fold and then you just called. We both checked the turn and the river, your call slowed me down, but I was convinced my 4 was good.
